Provide an opportunity for underserved Atlantic City youth to develop leadership skills, confidence and personal growth through rowing.

The FREE program will provide a summer enrichment opportunity for underserved Atlantic City middle school students interested in developing the skills of rowing. This team-oriented sport will teach skills participants can use throughout their lives. The program will focus on fun, development and teamwork as well as the importance of exercise and nutrition. Participants will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, experienced Stockton University rowing coaches, current Stockton rowing athletes, an athletic trainer and lifeguard. In addition, participants will receive breakfast daily, healthy snacks and if needed, transportation to and from the Atlantic City boathouse.

Full program details can be found on the camp website at

Stockton’s Youngest Rowers Get Up Early!

33 middle school students from Atlantic City have been arriving at the Atlantic City boathouse bright and early four days a week this summer.

The camp started this year with the support of dedicated and generous local residents and rowers who wanted to give students from Atlantic City the opportunity to experience the back bay on a boat and learn the skills rowing teaches, including discipline, leadership and teamwork.

The students arrived at the end of June with no experience. Along the way, they are learning valuable skills both on and off the water from the same coaches who helped lead the Stockton Women’s Varsity Eight team to a gold medal at the famed Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia this year.

Stockton Hopes New Summer Youth Rowing Camp Will Create a Feeder Program For ACHS, University

April 19, 2021

When Vashon Brock was a young boy and the weather was nice, his grandmother would buy him breakfast before taking him to school. The two would sit along the sea wall and eat, and watch the high school rowing team make its way through the back bays.

“As a kid, I remember I loved that,” said Brock, now 22. “I wanted to do that and be on the water.”

So he did, joining the Atlantic City High School crew team and going on to row at Stockton University where he is a senior. Now, Brock hopes he can instill that same enthusiasm in a new group of young people in the city as a coach for Stockton’s Youth Rowing Program for middle school-age students this summer.

John Bancheri wants to give young people living in Atlantic City the same experience he had when he started to row the back bays in the 1970s.

“It changed my life,” said Bancheri, the head rowing coach at Stockton University.
